Southwest’s Massive Expansion: 20 New Routes Launching In June [Full List]

Southwest Airlines is the US’s fourth-largest operator for domestic and short-haul international flights. According to the evolving carrier’s schedule submission to Cirium Diio, an average of 4,139 daily services are planned for June. Compared to the same month last year, its offering has fallen by 1%.

Analyzing Southwest’s full June schedule shows that 920 routes are planned. 856 are domestic (including the first two routes to Alaska) and 64 are international. As its intra-US services tend to have higher frequencies, the international arena accounts for just 3% of services but 7% of its network.

Cirium was used to examine Southwest’s entire schedule between January 2025 and May 2026, which was then compared to what is available in June 2026. This process identified the launch or resumption of 20 routes. Curiously, they’ll all take off on either June 4 (seven links) or June 6 (13 routes).

On Thursday, June 4, Southwest will inaugurate flights from Austin Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) to Cincinnati (daily), AUS to Seattle (daily), Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to Kansas City (daily), BOS to San Diego (daily), Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) to Cancun (up to five weekly), LAS to Los Cabos (up to daily), and Ontario to Honolulu (daily). It had also planned to fly from LAS to Puerto Vallarta then, but the launch has been pushed back to October.

Two of the links were previously on the airline’s map: AUS-Seattle (2015-2018) and BOS-Kansas City (2013-2019). Unlike some airlines, particularly Allegiant Air and Breeze Airways, Southwest generally does not seek out many unserved opportunities, at least with a more or less daily frequency.

So it proves here, as only one market — LAS to Cancun — will be unserved when the carrier’s flights begin. JetBlue was the last operator, with its final departure taking place in 2022. Frontier and Volaris, among others, operated in the past. Southwest is better placed, not least because of its considerable network behind LAS.

These 13 Routes Will Launch On June 6

On Saturday, June 6, a baker’s dozen route launches will take place. They’ll all have the same frequency, and many of them will only operate until early August. Despite the limited service, so many inaugurations taking place on one day, or within a few days, is always noteworthy. It happens quite a lot.

Southwest will begin flying from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) to Oklahoma City (weekly), BWI to Pensacola (weekly), Dallas Love to Hartford (weekly), Denver to Destin-Fort Walton Beach (weekly), Indianapolis to San Juan (weekly), Kansas City to Norfolk (weekly), and Kansas City to Savannah (weekly). Allegiant just started flying between Denver and Destin.

Then there’s Houston Hobby to Myrtle Beach (weekly), Long Beach to Bozeman (weekly), Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Little Rock (weekly), MCO to Wichita (weekly), Pittsburgh to Destin-Fort Walton Beach (weekly), and Tampa to Knoxville (weekly).

Southwest Airlines Cuts 11 International Routes: See All Flight Changes Now

All are sun markets from multiple airports across the US. Find out more here!

Only three of the markets have had nonstop flights with Southwest before: BWI to Oklahoma City (2007-2020), BWI to Pensacola (2020-2021), and MCO to Little Rock (2013-14). In Oklahoma City’s case, a daily frequency was available. Things are very different this time.

Significantly, no airline has ever operated several of them, at least not in the past 20 years. They include Dallas Love to Hartford, Kansas City to Norfolk and Savannah, and Houston Hobby to Myrtle Beach. Their commencement is especially notable. Of course, American Airlines serves Dallas/Fort Worth-Hartford, although neither United Airlines nor any other carrier runs between Houston Intercontinental and Myrtle Beach.

Recall that Southwest has scheduled an average of 4,139 daily services for next month. They will touch 122 airports. Compared to June 2025, Anchorage, Knoxville, St. Maarten, St. Thomas, and Santa Rosa are now served. However, Chicago O’Hare and Washington Dulles will cease seeing the carrier in June. The airline will consolidate at Chicago Midway and BWI.

With an average of 543 daily takeoffs/landings (movements) in the examined month, Denver is Southwest’s most-served airport. It always is. Then there’s LAS (489 daily movements), Midway (452), BWI (433), and Dallas Love (392). Due to the strong presence of United and Frontier at Denver, Southwest only has 27% of the airport’s services.
