The San Francisco 49ers have given a multiyear extension to coach Kyle Shanahan, sources confirmed to ESPN on Friday.
Terms of the deal, which was first reported by The Ringer, are not yet known, but he had been under contract with San Francisco through the 2027 season.
In his 10 seasons, Shanahan has an 83-67 regular-season record and has guided the 49ers to six playoff appearances, including Super Bowls trips — both losses — following the 2019 and 2023 seasons. He has won 10 or more games in a season five times.
The 49ers opened the 2026 season in Australia with a 27-7 victory over the Los Angeles Rams.
This summer, Shanahan suffered a concussion, three broken ribs and a broken left hand, among other injuries, in a car crash on July 14.
Shanahan, 46, was named coach of the 49ers on Feb. 6, 2017. He signed a multiyear contract extension in September 2023. With two more games, Shanahan will tie Bill Walsh for the most games coached with the franchise.
Since he became head coach in 2017, the 49ers rank first in yards margin, outgaining their opponents by 7,774 yards — over 1,300 yards more than the next best team, the Buffalo Bills (6,414).
