Shrek 2 Remastered Officially Announced With Must-See GTA 6-inspired Trailer

Rockstar Games has spent years building hype for Grand Theft Auto 6, with every trailer and update becoming a major event for fans. But what if that same dramatic treatment was applied to a very different kind of video game? One starring a certain green ogre, perhaps?

That’s apparently the thinking behind the official reveal of Shrek 2 Remastered, which has officially been announced with a trailer that channels nothing less than the cinematic style of Rockstar’s GTA 6 marketing.

Developed by Aspyr, Shrek 2 Remastered will launch on Nov. 10 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. The game first surfaced last month through an achievement leak, followed by an early Xbox Store listing that revealed details about its upgrades.

What to expect from Shrek 2 Remastered

Originally developed by Luxoflux and published by Activision, Shrek 2 is an action-adventure platformer based on DreamWorks Animation’s hit 2004 film. Players travel through locations including Shrek’s swamp, Fiona’s castle and the kingdom of Far Far Away, revisiting scenes from the movie alongside additional sequences created for the game.

Players can control Shrek and other familiar characters, including Fiona and Donkey, as they fight enemies and tackle platforming challenges. The original game also supported cooperative play, letting up to four players join in locally.

The remaster brings the game to modern hardware with improved textures, an enhanced user interface, upgraded cutscenes and 4K resolution. It also adds a Photo Mode and a Cheat Mode that lets players modify their experience. Perhaps the biggest addition is online co-op. While the original supported local multiplayer, the remaster will let up to four players team up online.

The timing also makes sense from a franchise perspective. Shrek 5 is expected to arrive in 2027, giving fans a chance to revisit the series’ early-2000s heyday before the ogre returns to theaters.
