RENTON, Wash. — Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said the team has interest in signing Terrion Arnold after meeting with the free agent cornerback over the weekend.

Arnold was released by the Detroit Lions, who drafted him in the first round in 2024, in late June, less than a week after he was arrested in Tampa, Florida, on felony charges in connection with a robbery and kidnapping in early February.

Seattle brought Arnold to team headquarters Sunday for a meeting that included a workout. It was listed as a tryout on the NFL’s transaction wire.

Macdonald was asked about the Seahawks’ interest in Arnold on Monday.

“It’s enough right now that we had him in for a great visit, a great tryout,” Macdonald said. “It’s a situation where there’s other things that are surrounding it. We’re aware of that. But we’re working through the situation right now. But it was a great visit. I really enjoyed meeting him, and I think he enjoyed being here, so we’ll see where it goes.”

Arnold is accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and beating of three men whom prosecutors believe he wrongly suspected of stealing $100,000 in cash from him, along with luxury watches and bags.

Arnold, through his representatives, has denied the allegations. He is facing four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery, which carry a potential sentence of life in prison. No trial date has been set.

Arnold, 23, turned himself in to authorities June 24 and was released from custody June 30 after he posted a $1 million bond. Among the conditions ordered by a Hillsborough County (Florida) judge was that Arnold remain confined to his residence in Tallahassee, Florida, except for when he would be playing, training or traveling with the Lions, or making court-related appearances.

The Lions announced his release June 29.

“We’re going to do our due diligence,” Macdonald said. “There’s a lot of people in Terrion’s corner that we respect in terms of [their view of] the type of guy he is. So, we’re going to work through all that, and I trust our people to make the best decision for us. We also think this is a great place to come work, too, and that people can be the best versions of themselves when given the opportunity, so it kind of works both ways.”

The Seahawks had strong interest in Arnold leading up to the 2024 draft, when the former Alabama star was taken 24th by Detroit.

Karl Scott, the Seahawks’ defensive backs coach and defensive passing game coordinator, recruited Arnold to Alabama while he was the Crimson Tide’s DBs coach, though he left the school before Arnold’s freshman season.

No. 3 quarterback Jalen Milroe is among the current Seahawks who were college teammates with Arnold.

“Karl recruited him, to my knowledge, but did not coach him, so it’s not as big of a relationship as you might expect, but he’s definitely a person that we would talk to,” Macdonald said. “Anybody that has any relationship with anybody that we’re going to bring in, we’re going to seek that counsel.”

According to the NFL Network, Arnold also had a visit scheduled this week with the New Orleans Saints and previously visited the Houston Texans.

After letting Riq Woolen leave in free agency, the Seahawks have Noah Igbinoghene and Nehemiah Pritchett battling for the No. 3 cornerback job behind Devon Witherspoon and Josh Jobe. Rookie third-round pick Julian Neal could enter that mix, but he’s working his way back from an undisclosed injury that has sidelined him since early in training camp.

“I have a ton of confidence in our defensive backfield room,” Macdonald said. “This is a situation of, we’re kind of in everything all the time. So we’re always trying to make our team the best we can possibly make it. Whether or not Terrion ends up here or not or if it works out or it doesn’t, we’ll keep on rolling the way we know how.”

Arnold has one interception and 18 passes defensed in 24 career games. He played in only eight games last season while dealing with a shoulder injury that eventually required surgery.

If the Seahawks sign Arnold, it’s not clear when his legal situation would allow him to play.

“I think we understand that anything is kind of on the table,” Macdonald said when asked about Arnold’s potential availability, “and that’s where we’re at in the process.”
