San Francisco 49ers’ Brandon Aiyuk is issued arrest warrant after posting speeding video

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was issued an arrest warrant in Northern California after he posted a video online that appears to show him driving at high speeds.

Aiyuk is accused of engaging in the misdemeanor of “exhibition of speed” on a highway “on or about” Dec. 20, according to a request for an arrest warrant filed in February. The date correlates with when a YouTube video was posted to Aiyuk’s account showing him driving a Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing.

He introduces the car in the video as the Cadillac’s answer to Dodge’s Hellcat model before he cuts to a clip of someone behind the wheel. Aiyuk’s face is not in the clip, but the driver is wearing red sweatpants, which Aiyuk was wearing earlier in the video.

The digital speedometer in the frame shows the vehicle driving as high as 111 mph at one point.

Aiyuk posted an apology this year, saying he would not post car content with speeding in the future.

“Was Praying with my son tonight and wouldn’t want anybody else to miss out on an opportunity to do the same with their loved ones!” he wrote. “My apologies.”

Representatives for Aiyuk and the 49ers did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.

It’s unclear whether the warrant is active. Court records show that a traffic case was filed against Aiyuk in Santa Clara County in January and that it remains open, but it lists no hearings.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Aiyuk is a native Californian whom the 49ers drafted from Arizona State in 2020 as the second of their two first-round picks. He signed a $120 million deal with the 49ers in 2024, just before he tore both his anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments.

The team voided the guaranteed money in his contract last year after Aiyuk failed to show up for rehab sessions, according to NBC Sports. John Lynch, the team’s general manager, said in January that the 49ers would move on from Aiyuk in the offseason, but he is still listed on the reserve squad.
