Salomon continues to expand its New York City presence as it opens its third store in 20 months.
The French sports label will open the doors Wednesday to a new location in the Upper West Side, Footwear News can exclusively report. Located at 270 Columbus Ave, the space claims 812 square feet and will feature the largest performance product offering of the three NYC doors.
“The opening of our Upper West Side brand store represents another important step in our North America retail expansion plan,” LeeAnn Fallon, vice president of Retail for Salomon North America, said in a press release. “New York City is where performance meets culture. It’s a proving ground for brand relevance and a catalyst for global growth. The Upper West Side store will be a place for consumers to connect with like-minded people who have a passion for the outdoors and a strong connection to their community.”
Salomon entered NYC through SoHo in October 2024 with the first store in its history dedicated to its Sportstyle category. Initially framed as a pop-up, the concept location remains open today and was joined 13 months later by another Sportstyle location in Williamsburg.
A more balanced offering of performance and lifestyle product will characterize the Upper West Side location. The opening coincides with two key releases in both categories, as the Grvl Concept Shoe launches as a pinnacle hybrid runner akin to the road running shoes from Salomon’s S/Lab collection, and the “Pink Pack” comes out of Sportstyle with vibrant renditions of the ACS Pro, Speedcross 3, XT-Whisper and RX Marie-Jeanne.
Last year saw Salomon expand in the U.S. with openings in Chicago and Los Angeles, and in March it added its first Latin American flagship in Mexico City. Steve Doolan, Salomon’s president and general manager of the Americas, recently told FN the company is eying San Francisco, Miami, Washington D.C. and Boston for the future.
“When we think about stores, we don’t have a hey, we want to have 100 stores in five years,” Doolan said. “What we really think about is where is it accretive to the brand in totality.”
