Jagex is offering long-time, lapsed, and new RuneScape players a clean slate with RuneScape Reignited.

Announced at the same RuneFest 2026 event where Jagex revealed its fourth RuneScape MMO built in Unreal Engine, RuneScape Reignited is a new permanent character type launching on 2 December.

Jagex outlined the details in a blog post entitled “RuneScape As It Was Always Meant To Be”, explaining how Reignited characters come with a brand-new economy and hiscores with no paid progression available.

“It plays out in the same worlds that all existing characters are already playing in, and all Reignited characters will have free access to members’ content for the first 10 days following its launch,” Jagex explained.

“If you’ve ever felt lost or left behind in RuneScape, or have been unsure of how to come back or where to begin… There genuinely has never been a better time to jump back in or to experience the full adventure from the start – so we’ve made a reason to do just that,” the team wrote.

“Reignited is the culmination of everything that we have been building towards this year, and yet it is also the start of a brand new chapter.”

For new players, the game will provide an opportunity to “experience 25 years of RuneScape, from a new shared starting point”, while existing players get to “see your worlds thriving again and helping the community grow in all directions. Just as how Ironman players live among existing players today, Reignited characters will be part of your experience inside Gielinor every day”.

RuneScape Reignited, The Adventure Guide and the next leap for Remastering RuneScape, will “all arrive in a single update” on 2nd December.

Jagex has also announced a fourth MMO in the RuneScape series. Revealed at RuneFest in Birmingham, the developer announced the new instalment has been built in Unreal Engine. It also confirmed a new RuneScape animated adaptation, made in partnership with YouTuber Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White, is on the way.

A clone of Old School RuneScape briefly appeared on the internet this week, until, stoking the ire of the RuneScape community before being a quickly shut down.
