Random: Metroid Prime In 2D Is Now A Reality Thanks To New Fan Project

Before Metroid Prime launched in 2002, the series had been exclusively 2D since its inception in the ’80s. Now, Nintendo is able to play in both 2D and 3D spaces, but what if you could ‘demake’ Prime to be more like the original 2D titles?

That’s exactly what Lv.4 GAMES has done with its new fan project: Metroid Prime Origins. It’s a completely fresh adaptation of Prime that morphs it into an NES-inspired 2D adventure, complete with original sprites, sounds effects, and music.

Everything’s in there, from the opening section aboard the frigate to the final confrontation with Metroid Prime itself. We love the 8-bit takes on the themes too, including the iconic Phendrana Drifts and Tallon Overworld.

Of course, the creators are well aware of the risk involved with such a project. The trailer had already been taken down, and the Reddit announcement includes a direct nod to Nintendo’s ‘ninjas’.

“P.S. I know I am now a target of the Nintendo ninjas, no need to tell me.”

For now, however, you can still download it if you wish. All the relevant links should be available via the Reddit post.
