Although Pokémon Champions is now the main competitive title for the video game, some trainers are still apparently calling for single-player content to be added.

VGC recently spoke to the game’s co-director Masaaki Hoshino about these fan requests for “Pokémon Stadium-like offline modes” in the free-to-play title, but it doesn’t seem like this will be happening, at least in the foreseeable future…

For now, the team wants to keep the spotlight on the player versus player (PvP) experience while “more people are increasingly playing”, as single-player modes could potentially move people away from the competitive aspect. Here’s some of his reasoning behind this:

Masaaki Hoshino: “For the time being, we probably won’t be adding additional modes similar to Pokémon Stadium.

“The reason is if you start adding a lot of single-player modes, that kind of moves people away from the PvP, and that actually increases the match [wait] time, which makes it a little more difficult for a PvP game. So at least while more people are increasingly playing, I want to focus on PvP for the time being.”

So, if you want solo modes, it seems you’ll have to stick with the mainline releases for now. The current focus for Pokémon Champions is the upcoming release of Z Mega Evolutions, arriving this week. You can find out more about what to expect from this in our previous story here on Nintendo Life.
