PlayStation State of Play live report – all of today’s news from Sony’s 2026 summer showcase

Sound the horn, for the summer gaming festivities are about to begin. Sony goes first with its PlayStation State of Play showcase, which starts tonight at 10pm UK time (that’s 11pm CEST/2pm PDT/5pm EDT). And we’ll be covering it in this article, live, bringing you all the news and announcements as they happen.

More importantly, we’ll be having a chat with you while we do this, debating what we like and don’t like while sharing – I hope – a sense of genuine surprise when something excitingly unexpected happens. If something excitingly unexpected happens.

Which brings us to this: what is going to happen tonight? All we know for sure is that Marvel’s Wolverine – releasing 15th September – will feature in the show, and there’ll be more than 60 minutes of updates, announcements and gameplay reveals from “top studios” around the world. Beyond that, it’s anyone’s guess.

So, will there be something on the third part of the Final Fantasy 7 reboot perhaps? Sony and Square Enix do play well together. An official announcement of the leaked Rayman Origins Remaster, maybe? And what about the new God of War game, which is rumoured to explore more mythologies and be more hack-and-slash than the narrative cinematic adventures of late? I’d love a longer look at Naughty Dog’s big new game Intergalactic as well. The possibilities are… open-ended.

Remember, there is a slight sense of pressure on Sony this evening to demonstrate the strengths of its first-party studios and exclusives, after it revealed it would be ditching PC conversions of them. Are they strong enough to continue to sell increasingly expensive PlayStation hardware?

10pm tonight, then. Be there or be square, triangle, circle, cross.
