Pharrell Williams Debuts a Bold Take on the Male Wedding Band

Leave it to Pharrell Williams to rewrite style codes from the front row of Paris Fashion Week.

His latest law change? Male wedding bands.

The multihyphenate accented his traditional gold band with a massive rock on his ring finger, while sitting for a slew of shows — from Dior Homme to Sacai — over the weekend. The ring pairing resembled the quintessential engagement stack worn by most women post-wedding. It was also overtly similar to the duo his wife, Helen Lasichanh, donned next to him.

Where Williams’ diamond differed from his partner’s was in the size and shape — his appeared to be double the carats in an east-west setting, while Lasichanh’s looked to be a three-row diamond set on top of a thin band. Teamed with a signet on his right ring finger, the creative director’s wedding band stack was also overly stylized — a level up from Lasichanh’s engagement pairing.

Though it’s far from unusual for him to accessorize with jewels (he routinely wears diamond studs and bulky chains), he’s yet to don a stack like this. The style choice stuck out like a proverbial middle finger to gender norms associated with engagement rings and wedding bands, offering a modern blueprint for men, who, up until now, have left the diamond decoration to their partners. Given that Williams already had a penchant for statement jewelry, we’ll likely see the nascent male accessorizers adopt a modest version of his “engagement ring,” most likely in smaller sizes. Think studded bands and half-carat rows.

Time and time again, Williams and Lasichanh have topped the leaderboard in the couples’ fashion game. Together, the duo — who tied the knot in 2013 — favor a high-fashion take on street style, partnering functional footwear with unique designer basics. Take their outfits from the Dior Homme spring 2027 show on June 24. Here’s the “Happy” artist dressed in blue jeans, red leather Louis Vuitton sneakers, a gray zip-up hoodie and a backward Louis Vuitton monogram baseball cap. At the same time, Lasichanh wore custom Adidas kicks with a navy blue button-up blouse tucked into matching high-waisted trousers with pleats down the front.
