Parliamentary Secretary Oliphant represents Canada at Peru’s presidential inauguration

July 27, 2026 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada

The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that Robert Oliphant, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, will travel to Lima, Peru, from July 27 to 28, 2026, to represent the Government of Canada at the inauguration of president-elect Keiko Fujimori and unlock new opportunities with one of Canada’s most important partners in South America.

Canada and Peru are long-standing partners in the Americas and the Pacific, with a growing relationship grounded in free trade, inclusive economic growth and regional security. This visit builds on recent Canada-Peru initiatives that are expanding opportunities for both countries and bringing Canadian expertise to priority sectors, including critical minerals and sustainable mining, infrastructure and space.

While in Lima, Parliamentary Secretary Oliphant will meet with Peruvian officials, international partners and Canadian stakeholders to advance economic cooperation, democratic governance and hemispheric security.

He will engage with Canadian business leaders and investors active in Peru’s mining, infrastructure, defence and financial services sectors as the two countries work to promote the benefits of the Canada-Peru Free Trade Agreement and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.

He will also meet representatives of the United Nations, the International Organization for Migration, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime to discuss efforts to promote the protection and integration of migrants and refugees in Peru and across South America.

Canada looks forward to working with Peru’s incoming administration to drive economic growth, strengthen regional security and build a more secure, sustainable and prosperous hemisphere.
