The Buzzer: Canadians to watch for Friday

Canada continues gold medal streak at the Commonwealth Games

CBC Sports host and Paralympic medallist Nathan Clement is joined by Commonwealth Games medallist Kate Van Buskirk and Paralympic bronze medallist Marissa Papaconstantinou to break down all the action from day 7 at the Commonwealth Games.

Hi, I’m a writer of the Buzzer, CBC Sports’ newsletter.

Here’s some Canada’s to watch on Day 8.

Warner takes a narrow lead into the final day of the decathlon as he tries to win his second Commonwealth Games title — and his first since he struck gold in 2014 right here in Glasgow. Friday’s decathlon events are the 110m hurdles (5:05 a.m. ET), discus throw (5:50 a.m. ET), pole vault (7:30 a.m. ET), javelin throw (2 p.m ET) and, finally, the lung-busting 1,500m (3:35 p.m. ET).

Olympic 4x100m relay champion Aaron Brown will run for a medal in the men’s 200m final at 4:25 p.m. ET. The 35-year-old took silver in this event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, and today he clocked the second-fastest overall time in the semis — a wind-aided 19.90 seconds. Race walker Evan Dunfee defends his Commonwealth title in the men’s 10-kilometre event at 2:05 p.m. ET. Dunfee, 35, is the reigning world champion in the men’s 35km distance and took bronze in the now-defunct 50K at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.
