On LightSpray Cloudmonster 3 Hyper Release Date

Landing a pair of On’s super shoes with a 3D-printed upper has been a difficult task because of limited stock, but LightSpray technology for the masses is now right around the corner.

The On LightSpray Cloudmonster 3 Hyper has been confirmed for an early March release as one of the most anticipated new running shoes of 2026. Just eight components are used to construct the super trainer and On’s lightest Cloudmonster shoe to date, including a fully 3D-printed upper and two-piece Helion HF supercritical foam midsole. A men’s size 8.5 comes in at 190 grams, which is more than 100 grams lighter than the baseline Cloudmonster 3 that will release simultaneously.

Without the need for any additional layers on the upper, LightSpray provides a form-fitting sensation without any distraction or pressure points. Its porous nature is ideal for temperature regulation, and a special sock that comes with each pair works in conjunction with this function in addition to providing targeted comfort.

“LightSpray is such an ambitious project,” On cofounder and executive co-chairman Caspar Coppetti told Footwear News in December at The Running Event. “We’ve managed to master technology so that we can do many more things than just tone shoe, but we’ve also mastered the scale so that we can do hundreds of thousands of pairs. It was a bit frustrating because we had so much demand for the race-day product but couldn’t fulfill it.”

On introduced LightSpray on the Cloudboom Strike LS, a prototype of which was debuted by Hellen Obiri as she won the 2024 Boston Marathon. The plan was originally for her to give the shoe its first public appearance at the Paris Olympics, but because she didn’t want to wear a new product for the first time there, On bumped up the timeline by several months.

At the time, it was just one robot making the shoe specifically for Obiri. Now, On has 32 of them at a newly opened South Korea factory, in addition to four at a facility in Zurich that opened last summer, increasing the capacity for production 30-fold.

The simplicity of the shoe’s design goes a long way in making it scalable, and Coppetti said it led to him being told the LightSpray Cloudmonster is what a shoe from Apple would look like during a preview last year at Paris Fashion Week.

The On LightSpray Cloudmonster 3 Hyper will release March 5 through On’s website and North American retail stores in limited quantities. A full global launch will then follow April 16, and pricing for the shoe is set at $280.
