North America’s heaviest zucchini weighs in at 170 pounds


Sarah Whitty couldn’t sleep.

She was aiming to grow the heaviest zucchini ever in North America but worried her roughly four-foot-long fruit, which she named Secretariat after the champion racehorse, would crack leading up to the weigh-in. If a crack reaches a giant zucchini’s internal cavity, the zucchini — known as marrow by growers — is disqualified.
