MONTREAL — Police northeast of Montreal say no injuries were reported and nothing was spilled after a CN Rail train went off the tracks on Sunday.
Officers in the suburban city of Repentigny say railway investigators will carry out on-site dismantling and cleanup work heading into Monday.
They say no leaks, fires or injuries have been reported, and that none of the railcars contained hazardous materials.
A railway spokesperson says 45 train cars derailed and that while three had previously transported diesel, they were not loaded.
Police earlier said the derailment knocked out power to a little more than 1,000 Hydro-Québec customers, and the utility’s website did not show an estimated restoration time.
Officials said service would be restored by early Monday but that there could be localized outages overnight.
On social media, Repentigny Mayor Nicolas Dufour called the derailment an “unsettling situation” and thanked residents for their resilience.
