Although never not in favor, the Nike Air Force 1 Low has taken a particular place of prominence this summer with the return of its ’01 construction and some particularly bold takes on the ’07 build that’s long been the baseline. Joining the latter camp soon will be a can’t-miss colorway with hits of an exotic material.
The Nike Air Force 1 Low LX Icon arrives with an all-green look and dashes of ostrich-textured leather. The raised dots of quill follicles can be found on the Swoosh and mustache, while the rest of the upper is made out of a leather that appears to be higher quality than usual. Bronze-colored metal is used for the eyestays and lace dubrae, and the sole unit is rendered in a translucent rubber continuing the green theme. Special marks can then be found through a “1Icon” logo near the lateral heel and a insole depicting an X-ray view of the iconic model.
Many sneakerheads have rejoiced over the return of the Air Force 1 Low’s ’01 build this summer, as it features a lower cut, more defined panels and rounder tongue more true to the model’s original look from 1983. A Nigo collaboration quietly ushered in its return this spring, and Nike overtly called out the ’01 construction for a New York Knicks-themed pre-order and the wide release of the shoe in its essential Triple White colorway.
On the ’07 front, the Air Force 1 Low has been treated to a wide range of variants including a pack inspired by the Air Safari, numerous patent leather renditions including an uncanny denim print, several animal prints and ornamentation ranging from monk straps to floral appliques. Next year will bring what may be the wildest and most polarizing Air Force 1 Low, as it takes on a square-toed shape.
The Nike Air Force 1 Low LX Icon will release this summer through Nike’s website and select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $140.
