New investigation finds Loblaws is still…

CBC has found that Loblaws and other major grocery stores have been overcharging customers for underweight meat. The report found overpriced fresh meat at seven Loblaw-owned or Sobeys-affiliated stores in the Toronto, Vancouver and Halifax areas.

Last year, a similar investigation revealed that as many as 80 Loblaws stores in Western Canada — as well as Sobeys and Walmart locations in several provinces — had been weighing meat with packaging, increasing prices by 4% to 11%.

Federal regulations state that posted net weights for packaged food, and subsequent pricing, can’t factor in the packaging.
