New Economy Canada has named Ian Bruce as its new president.

“I’m thrilled to be joining New Economy Canada at such an important moment. Canadian industries and workers are under enormous pressure, but they are doing more than weathering the storm — they are innovating and building a cleaner, more productive and more secure economy.” said Ian in a press release shared with iPolitics. 

In announcing Bruce’s appointment, the Executive Board Chair Merran Smith stated, “What stands out about Ian is his ability to bring people together and turn shared ambition into meaningful results. Throughout his career, he has built impressive partnerships and worked with governments to advance public policy solutions that have translated into investment, projects and clean-economy growth. He knows how to get things done, and that will be enormously valuable as New Economy Canada enters its next chapter.”

Bruce has a long history of clean energy and clean economy work, with his role prior to joining New Economy Canada being acting executive director of Climate Reality Canada, beginning in April of 2024. His longest tenure was with the David Suzuki Foundation, where he joined in 2008 as a team lead in the climate change and clean energy department, rising to Deputy Executive Director, a position he held from October 2021 until March 2023. During that same period, from February 2020 until June 2023, Bruce was also a member of B.C.’s Climate Solutions Council.

Michel Bissonnette has joined NATIONAL as the senior vice-president for government relations and public affairs.

“Michel brings a valuable combination of business, management and media experience, along with a deep understanding of political and business circles. His leadership and the trusted relationships he has built throughout his career will be significant assets to our clients and our teams.” said the President of NATIONAL Martin Daraiche in a statement on LinkedIn.

Most recently, Michel was a member of the administration for the Théâtre Prospero, as well as a mentor at the Fondation Guy Laliberté, both positions held until September of 2026. Michel also served as the Senior Vice President of Radio-Canada, beginning in 2017 until 2023. Prior to that, he co-founded and led Zone3 for more than 16 years, starting in 2000 until October of 2016.

Restaurants Canada is bringing on Giulia Doyle as vice-president of public affairs and communications.

“Giulia is a bilingual communications, marketing and public affairs executive with more than 20 years of experience working with national associations, government and highly regulated organizations […] She brings extensive experience in strategic communications, media relations, marketing, brand strategy, issues management and advocacy communications.” Restaurants Canada stated in a press release on LinkedIn.

In her most recent role, Giulia worked as Director of Communications for the Federation of Law Societies of Canada, beginning in August of 2024. Before that, she was Director of Communications at Global Affairs Canada, working directly with Minister Mary Ng. Giulia also ran her own communications firm, Giulia Doyle Communication Consulting, from July 2021 until January of 2024. She began that firm following almost 10 years at the Canada Real Estate Association, where she joined as an associate director of communications in 2011, before being promoted to director of communications in 2018, a position she held until July of 2021.
