Swapped racked up 38.7 million views in its first week
KPop Demon Hunters dropped out of the top 10 movies on Netflix in the U.S. for the first time in 46 weeks as of May 10, but the streaming service has a new record-breaking animated hit to replace it. The Skydance Animation and Netflix film Swapped racked up 38.7 million views in its first week, with 15.5 million people watching during its first weekend. Swapped is now topping the service’s viewing charts in the U.S. and its English-language global rankings.
Swapped follows Ollie (Michael B. Jordan), a small mammal called a pookoo, that gets body-swapped with Ivy (Juno Temple), a type of aggressive bird that preys on pookoo. As they try to undo the transfer by tracking down a magical seed pod, they rethink the longtime enmity between their communities and imagine how life might be better if they worked together.
The sweet and beautifully animated film debuted on May 1 and quickly rose to the number two spot on the English film list, with the biggest opening for an animated film since 2023’s Adam Sandler musical Leo. Swapped has since broken Netflix’s record for most views of an animated film in a single week.
KPop Demon Hunters wasn’t an immediate hit when it debuted in 2025, but the movie’s catchy tunes, big emotions, and spectacular action have given it remarkable staying power. It’s still on Netflix’s top 10 English-language movies for global audiences and a sequel is in the works. Many of the families who memorized the words to “Golden” likely also queued up Netflix’s latest animated fantasy film, which means you can count on the streaming service greenlighting more movies like Swapped to compete with the classics on Disney Plus. Netflix has also had big success with older films like Home, a 2015 sci-fi movie from DreamWorks Animation, that has been one of the service’s top 10 English-language films globally for the past 11 weeks.
