Neopets are back and coming to Fortnite

Anything and everything will eventually come to Fortnite, including the browser-based virtual pet browser game Neopets. Epic Games announced Tuesday that the enduring virtual pet Aisha from Neopets is coming to Fortnite next month. Given Aisha’s stature, they’re likely to come to the game as one of Fortnite‘s diminutive Sidekicks.

Epic has added dozens of Sidekicks to Fortnite since introducing the cosmetics in November. The current pets include options like dogs, cats, birds, and dragons, plus licensed characters like SpongeBob SquarePants, the Toy Story Alien, Adventure Time‘s Peppermint Butler, Rick & Morty‘s Snowball, and Itchy from The Simpsons.

It’s not clear yet how Neopets’ Aisha will roll out, but Millennials everywhere who fondly remember caring for virtual pets on their parents’ computer are probably setting aside some V-Bucks just in case. (They probably cost just one avocado toast, anyway.)

Neopets officially launched in 1999 and was created by Adam and Donna Powell. The virtual pet website quickly grew in popularity, and captured the attention of young players. In its heyday, Neopets served as an early internet platform for kids to build communities and create around an overarching story filled with adorable creatures and faeries.

Over the past 27 years, ownership of Neopets has changed hands multiple times, and since 2023, it has been owned by World of Neopia. The company helped to exhume a slew of classic Neopets Flash games as part of a revival of the brand that also includes a Pokémon-like trading card game. Soon, that revival will spread to Fortnite and… who knows where else if Epic’s customers spend the right amount of V-Bucks.

Neopets’ Aisha comes to Fortnite on July 2.
