Nancy Pelosi’s Husband Could Face Charge Over Napa County Car Crash

Paul Pelosi, the 86-year-old husband of former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, could be charged after his convertible struck a parked car on Friday in Northern California, the police said.

The crash occurred in Napa County, where the Pelosis have a home, and is being investigated by the Napa County Sheriff’s Office. In a news release about the incident, the agency said that no one had been in the car that was struck and that a witness said that the driver of the convertible had stopped briefly after striking the car before leaving the scene.

The sheriff’s office said Mr. Pelosi told investigators that he knew he had hit something but didn’t know what and that he kept driving his car, which stopped running a short time later.

Amanda Bevins, a lawyer for Mr. Pelosi, said she had no comment on the incident.

Mr. Pelosi wasn’t taken into custody, and the sheriff’s office said it sent the case to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office, which will decided what, if any, charges to file.

The sheriff’s office said that, given Mr. Pelosi’s age, a request would be submitted to the DMV to evaluate his ability to drive.

In 2022, Mr. Pelosi, a real estate and technology investor, suffered two skull fractures after a man broke into the couple’s home in San Francisco and beat him with a hammer. The man, David DePape, was convicted on state and federal charges and is serving a life sentence in state prison.

Mr. Pelosi has been involved in other car crashes, one as a teenager and another four years ago. When he was 16, he was behind the wheel of a car that crashed. His brother, a passenger, was killed.

In 2022, he pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with a crash in Napa County. He was sentenced to eight hours of community service and placed on probation for three years.

A breathalyzer test conducted after the incident on Friday detected no alcohol, the sheriff’s office said.
