Toss Namibia opt to bowl vs South Africa
Both South Africa and Namibia rang in the changes, but Gerhard Erasmus stuck to his bowl-first plan in the second ODI of the three-match series in Windhoek. Namibia lost a rain-affected first game by 99 runs by DLS method while chasing, but hope the new personnel will bring them a different result in front of their home crowd.
They welcomed batter Michael van Lingen back at the top of the order after he was unavailable for game one. Van Lingen came out of retirement earlier this year, and is among their more accomplished batters, with the second-highest number of runs for them in ODIs. That left no room for talented 21-year old Alex Busing-Volschenck. Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton has been carded at No. 6 for some firepower, with allrounder JJ Smit out of the side.
Namibia also made a change to their bowling attack, and handed a debut to 18-year old seamer Waldo Smith, who has played five T20Is. Smith’s inclusion meant Max Heingo missed out. Smith, Jack Brassell and Ruben Trumpelmann form the pace pack.
South Africa rested captain Bjorn Fortuin, and handed the leadership to offspinner Prenelan Subrayen, who will also be their main spinner. They swapped out the Bosch brothers, bringing in Eathan for Corbin, and added Nqobani Mokoena to the attack. In the batting line-up, Matthew Breetzke replaced Rubin Hermann, with Dewald Brevis moved to No. 5 and Jason Smith given another opportunity at No. 6.
