It was the battle of the sequels at the box office this Mother’s Day weekend, and ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ came out the winner.
While new release ‘Mortal Kombat II’ topped Friday, it ultimately made $40 million for second place behind ‘Prada’s $43 million.

Globally, the ‘Prada’ sequel is now at $433 million, while ‘Mortal Kombat II’ debuted softly internationally with $23 million for a $63 million worldwide total.

Behind the top two, successful Michael Jackson biopic ‘Michael’ fell to third place, but is earning well, reaching $240.4 million in North America and a massive $577 million globally. It’s now the highest-earning music biopic in the country.

Cozy mystery ‘The Sheep Detectives’, which features Hugh Jackman and an all-star voice cast, arrived in fourth with a better-than-expected $15.9 million.
And ‘Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D)’, directed by the singer and James Cameron, opened to $7.5 million, slightly below expectations. It was bigger than projected at the international box office with $12.6 million for a global start of $20 million.
