A Calgary senior, missing for nearly two weeks, has been found dead in Saskatchewan.

RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney told CBC News the body of 82-year-old Diane Cooper was located in the rural municipality of Grandview, Sask., near Kindersley around 7:40 p.m. on Saturday.

In a social media post on Sunday, Cooper’s granddaughter, Zoe Cooper, wrote that her grandmother had “unfortunately passed away.”

“While this is not entirely unexpected, we are absolutely brokenhearted,” she wrote.

“We are so deeply grateful to everyone who helped search, shared posts, and showed us kindness and support during this incredibly difficult time. It has meant more to us than we can express.”

According to an RCMP timeline from April 16, Cooper left Calgary around 3:30 p.m. CST on April 6. She and her Dalmatian dog Halo were last seen in Hoosier, Sask., about 18 kilometres from the Alberta-Saskatchewan border, around 11 p.m. that same day.

Halo was found safe, Slaney said Sunday.

Police and civilians in both provinces had been on the lookout for Cooper after the air tag in her vehicle stopped showing her location.

Multiple police resources had been deployed in the search, including numerous RCMP detachments patrolling the roadways and RCMP Air Services in both Alberta and Saskatchewan.

“The RCMP sends condolences to the family and friends of Miss Cooper,” Slaney said.

RCMP say the circumstances surrounding her death are not suspicious.
