March 12, 2026 – Ottawa, Canada – Global Affairs Canada

Yesterday, the Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade, met with Manuel Tovar, Costa Rica’s Minister of Foreign Trade, to advance the growing Canada-Costa Rica trade partnership.

Minister Sidhu and Minister Tovar discussed opportunities to build on the positive momentum in bilateral trade and expand economic opportunities for businesses and workers in both countries. Shared trade between Canada and Costa Rica surpassed $1 billion in 2025, reflecting the strength of commercial ties and the potential for further growth.

They acknowledged progress in negotiations on Costa Rica’s accession process to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, noting that membership would deepen regional integration, expand market access and create new opportunities for Canadian and Costa Rican businesses.

The ministers agreed to remain in close contact and to continue advancing economic cooperation and trade opportunities between the two countries.
