October 2, 2026 – Ottawa, Canada – Global Affairs Canada
This week, the Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade, met with Piyush Goyal, India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, on the margins of the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Building on the momentum generated from their meeting in Mumbai last month, the ministers continued to advance Canada-India trade and investment priorities. They notably discussed the progress made on the Canada-India comprehensive economic partnership agreement negotiations ahead of the fifth negotiating round, scheduled for October 5 to 9, 2026. Minister Sidhu emphasized the importance of working toward a mutually beneficial agreement by the end of this year.
The ministers also discussed the upcoming Team Canada Trade Mission to India, from October 12 to 17, 2026, which will create new opportunities and expand commercial ties between Canadian and Indian businesses, a key priority under the Indo-Pacific Strategy.
Finally, Minister Sidhu highlighted Canada’s role as a trusted and reliable long-term economic partner for India, including its ability to meet India’s growing demand for energy, critical minerals and other key commodities.
