December 9, 2024 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada

Global humanitarian needs have reached unprecedented levels. Global cooperation is essential in helping the estimated 300 million people worldwide who currently need humanitarian assistance and protection. Canada is working with its UN, Red Cross and NGO partners to meet the critical needs of those suffering around the world.

Today, the Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development, announced that Canada will provide Can$88.2 million in funding over 3 years to the UN’s Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF). This funding will be combined with contributions from other donors, ensuring it is readily available for quick response to humanitarian situations around the world.

Canada is participating in CERF’s high-level pledging event for 2025, to be held on December 10, 2024, in New York City, New York. This event aims to galvanize donors to make financial commitments so that CERF can continue to respond to the increasing scale and complexity of global humanitarian needs.
