The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York City, New York.
The ministers welcomed the growing momentum in the Canada-UAE relationship following the conclusion of negotiations toward a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and the UAE’s strong participation in the Canada Investment Summit 2026, which was held on September 14 and 15 in Toronto, Ontario. They also discussed next steps toward a strategic partnership and opportunities to expand trade investment.
Minister Anand reiterated Canada’s solidarity with the UAE and other Gulf partners in the face of ongoing attacks by Iran and its proxy groups in the region. She condemned recent Iranian strikes against the UAE and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company vessels.
The ministers agreed to remain in close contact.
