Minister Anand meets with Ukraine’s foreign minister at United Nations General Assembly

The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met yesterday with Andrii Sybiha, Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss Canada’s continued support for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s ongoing war of aggression.

Minister Anand reaffirmed Canada’s role as co-chair, alongside Ukraine, of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children and commended Ukraine’s leadership in advancing the human dimension of the war. The ministers discussed next steps to sustain global momentum and coordination to ensure the safe return, rehabilitation and reintegration of Ukrainian children.

The ministers reviewed efforts to intensify economic pressure on Russia, including freezing Russian assets and the coordination of enhanced sanctions. Minister Anand reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to contribute meaningfully to the Coalition of the Willing and explore opportunities for further collaboration.

Throughout the discussion, Minister Anand emphasized the vital role of collaboration in obtaining tangible results. She reinforced Canada’s commitment to working with Ukraine and its partners to put an end to Russia’s aggression and support recovery.
