Minister Anand meets with Turkish counterpart

The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, concluded a productive meeting today in Ottawa with Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye.

The ministers discussed strengthening the Canada-Türkiye partnership, exchanged views on shared security priorities ahead of the NATO Summit, that will be held in Ankara, Türkiye, on July 7 and 8, 2026. They also addressed regional and global challenges, including Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East.

The ministers also explored opportunities for increased economic engagement in the energy, defence, aerospace, and mining sectors, reaffirming that future cooperation will drive shared security and economic prosperity for both countries.

On behalf of the Honourable Minister Tim Hodgson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Canada, Minister Anand also delivered to Minister Fidan a letter for Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, regarding deepening collaboration on energy security.
