The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today met with Margus Tsahkna, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, on the margins of the Canada-Baltics “3+1” Foreign Ministers meeting taking place in Tallinn, Estonia.

Minister Anand thanked Minister Tsahkna for participating in the inauguration ceremony of the Embassy of Canada to the Republic of Estonia, a testament to the strong partnership between Canada and Estonia. She also thanked him for hosting the Canada-Baltics “3+1” meeting, noting the importance of coordinating responses to current geopolitical issues.

The ministers discussed ways to deepen bilateral cooperation and coordination among NATO Allies to continue supporting Ukraine and to hold Russia accountable. Stressing the need to deploy all efforts to facilitate the return of Ukrainian prisoners of war, civilian detainees and deported children, Minister Anand invited Minister Tsahkna to attend the Conference on this topic in Toronto on September 28-29, 2026.

The ministers also discussed opportunities to foster more industrial partnerships and increase defence industrial capacity opportunities, including through the Defence Security and Resilience Bank. Building on significant investments announced by Prime Minister Mark Carney to defend, connect, and transform Canada’s Arctic and Northern region, Minister Anand also reaffirmed the importance of Canada’s Arctic contributions to the Alliance’s security.

Minister Anand highlighted recent Canadian investments in Estonia, positioning Canadian industry as a partner of choice for Estonia’s major defence, digital and energy procurements.

The ministers agreed to remain in close contact on shared priorities ahead of the upcoming NATO Summit, which will take place in Ankara, Türkiye, on July 7-8, 2026.
