Back in April, word arrived that ‘Project Hail Mary’ star Ryan Gosling was looking to stay in the sci-fi sphere, and had agreed to star in the new, mysterious movie from quirk-tastic ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ duo Daniels.
Well, maybe we should have wondered about the April 1st date, but rather than turning out to be a prank, the collaboration has instead been torpedoed by pesky scheduling issues. Gosling is out, but Deadline brings word that a high-profile replacement is now making a deal, with Matt Damon set in his place.

Release Date: Nov 19, 2027
Budget: $150,000,000
Damon will lead the ensemble cast for the mysterious new film from filmmakers Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, and producer Jonathan Wang, with Universal snapping up the rights to make it shortly after ‘Everything Everywhere’ secured its awards glory.

What’s the story of Daniels’ new movie?

As with their previous film, Kwan and Scheinert are keeping their cards close to their chest. But the former did tell Collider that it’ll be: “fun sci-fi, action comedy with a big heart. Very existential. All those things that you would hope that one of our movies would be. One of the reasons why it’s taking so long is because what we’re feeling and what we’re hearing from the world is very complex and really nuanced, and there’s so much paradox. To kind of reconcile all those things and put them into one movie, it takes time.”
So… yes… We’ll have to wait and see what their inventive brains have spawned this time.
When will the Daniels’ new movie be in theaters?
Fortunately, we won’t have to wait forever: Universal has scheduled the movie for release on November 19, 2027.
Damon, meanwhile, is back on our screens in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, which voyages to theaters on July 17.
