A lot of Fortnite players got an extremely pleasant surprise at the start of Chapter 7 Season 3, when they discovered they could get refunds, in V-Bucks, on a number of old skins they’ve had for years. If you’ve been playing Fortnite for a long time and have bought a lot of stuff from the item shop, you might be able to claim thousands of free V-Bucks. To check whether you’re eligible for any of these new refunds, navigate to the Account and Privacy section of the Fortnite game settings, and click on the “Return or Cancel Purchase” button where it says “Recent Purchases.” Any potential refund offers will be found on that screen.
Refunding a Fortnite skin or other cosmetic you bought typically involves using a refund ticket–but you only start with three of them, and you only get one new one per year once you use them. But whenever Epic Games alters an exiting Fortnite skin or other cosmetic, or an item becomes controversial in some way, the company typically offers those who own it the ability to refund it without using a ticket for a 30-day window after the change was made.
What Epic has done now is simply make all those refund offers permanent. For example, the Plastic Patroller skin was changed six years ago to add patches of dirt so it wouldn’t blend in with the environment so well, and now anyone who has ever purchased that skin can refund it. The customizable superhero skins, which a lot of folks run as single-color gimp suits, are also eligible for refund because Epic forbade certain color combinations at some point. There are many examples of cosmetics like this. I personally refunded five skins from my locker, and received 7,200 V-Bucks for them, so folks who’ve been collecting for years could have a windfall waiting for them in Season 3.
Just remember that refunding a skin does remove it from your locker–you don’t get to keep it after you get your V-Bucks back. But if you’ve been accumulating hundreds of skins for most of a decade, it probably won’t hurt much to part with some of these.
