Maggie Gyllenhaal celebrated the first few days of cooler weather in fall-ready footwear while in attendance at the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony held during the 83rd Venice International Film Festival today in Venice.

The ceremony was held to honor actress Ellen Burstyn, best known for her work in “Requiem for a Dream,” “The Exorcist” and “Flowers in the Attic.” Gyllenhaal’s chosen footwear was a lush wine-colored hue with glossy leather uppers and angular pointed toes. Short stiletto heels rounded out the colorful pair. Similar styles to the thespian’s own hail from brands like Sam Edelman, Schutz, Dolce Vita and Christian Louboutin, among others.

Burgundy, eggplant and wine-colored pumps are a staple color when it comes to fall footwear. When the weather gets cooler, many celebrities begin to embrace vampier hues, incorporating them into everything from eyeshadow and lipstick to footwear. These tones, along with taupe, brown and tan, are often associated with fall because the colors mirror the changing landscape. Falling leaves, crisp and juicy apples and seasonal harvest feature warm and hearty colors that translate well to fashions for fall.

Mirroring her footwear, the “Secretary” star sported a fun cropped blouse hailing from Chloe, made of a metallic wine-colored silk taffeta that appeared almost duochrome, shifting from burgundy to black. The top featured a plunging neckline, long sleeves and a cropped hem, all trimmed with voluminous ruffles. For bottoms, Gyllenhaal kept things simple with tailored black slacks, letting her top do all the heavy lifting.

The thespian accessorized her ensemble with large black sunglasses featuring gold hardware, a silver pendant necklace and a coordinating metallic silver mini bag with a chain strap. Said bag was from Bulgari and currently retails for $3,750. The style has a serpent head clasp, giving the bag its Serpenti-Forever name.

The Golden Lion Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to major names in the film industry, including actors and directors. Notable honorees include Charlie Chaplin, Orson Welles, Ingmar Bergman, Billy Wilder, Stanley Kubrick, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, David Lynch and Hayao Miyazaki, among others. The award is given to those with impressive bodies of work that have changed the landscape of film through their contribution either on or off screen.
