Luton 2 – 0 Stockport

Luton bounced back from their hammering at the hands of Mansfield on Sunday with a much-needed 2-0 victory over Stockport at Kenilworth Road.

The visitors went close midway through the first half when Harry Wood’s fierce drive drew a brilliant fingertip save from Town keeper Josh Keeley.

Kyle Wootton put his downward header wide for Stockport and Luton were denied on 32 minutes when Nahki Wells’ close-range shot drew a stunning save from Ollie Whatmuff, who stuck a leg out to divert over the bar.

The experienced striker did break the deadlock on 50 minutes, being in the right place to prod Harrison Ashby’s right-wing cross-shot into the net.

Stockport almost levelled before the hour when Ollie Norwood’s brilliant free-kick hit the inside of the post.

However, substitute Callum Marshall then doubled Luton’s lead with a truly magnificent 25-yard curler into the top corner on 76 minutes.

County threatened late on, Wootton and Mikael Mandron putting headers over, but Marshall almost added a second, denied by Whatmuff from close range.
