Lufthansa is one of the largest airlines in Europe. It offers hundreds of daily departures from its hubs in Germany. The airline has recently been making changes to its network. Simple Flying recently looked at some of the routes Lufthansa has ended.
At the same time, the
Star Alliance founding member is launching or resuming multiple routes. Here, we take a look at seven international nonstop routes that it will introduce or reinstate in the coming months and in 2027.
Lufthansa Restores Flights To Kuala Lumpur And Tokyo Narita
A couple of these routes are returning after nearly a decade. From October 25, the Frankfurt-based airline will operate five weekly year-round flights from
Frankfurt Airport (FRA) to
Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL), using its 287-seat Boeing 787-9. Lufthansa previously operated passenger flights between Frankfurt and Malaysia until 2016, when high operating costs, weak profitability, and competition from Gulf and Asian carriers made the route commercially unviable.
The airline is now returning to the market, which suggests there is sufficient demand to support the service. Though traffic may be driven more by visiting friends and relatives (VFR). OAG Traffic Analyzer data shows that around 54,000 passengers booked round trips between Frankfurt and Kuala Lumpur in the 12 months to June 2026. Furthermore, Lufthansa is also reinstating its Frankfurt–
Tokyo Narita Airport (NRT) service from March 28, 2027.
It last served the airport in 2017 and then consolidated its Tokyo operations at Haneda Airport (HND). Now, with this return, the airline will have three routes to the Japanese capital, its widest Tokyo network in ten years. Elsewhere in Japan, the Star Alliance member is also returning to Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO), which serves Japan’s fourth most populous city.

Lufthansa Adds More Flights To Finnish Lapland For Winter
The peak winter travel season is approaching, and Lapland will once again attract visitors looking for a Christmas getaway. Every winter, the region’s four main tourism airports, Rovaniemi, Kittilä, Ivalo, and Kuusamo, handle nearly 900,000 passengers, accounting for 55% of all regional airport traffic in Finland.
This winter, Lufthansa is adding a new connection from its Munich hub to Rovaniemi, which is widely known as the home of Santa Claus. Starting December 4, 2026, the airline will operate two weekly flights on Fridays and Sundays using the Airbus A320neo. Flight LH2466 will depart Munich at 11:30 AM local time and arrive in Rovaniemi at 3:45 PM. The return flight, LH2467, will leave Rovaniemi at 4:40 PM and arrive in Munich at 6:55 PM.

Lufthansa already serves Rovaniemi from Frankfurt. The route currently operates twice-weekly, and this season the airline is adding a weekly flight. Elsewhere in Finland, it is adding a second weekly flight between Frankfurt and Kuusamo and second and third weekly connections between Munich and Kittilä.
Lufthansa Returns To The Munich–Bologna Route After More Than 10 Years
After more than ten years, Lufthansa mainline will return to the Munich–Bologna route. From October 27, the airline is starting one weekly flight on the route, departing every Tuesday through December 29. The German flag carrier has served the Italian city for decades and currently operates nine weekly flights from its Frankfurt hub.
However, its wholly owned regional subsidiary, Air Dolomiti, has a larger presence in the market, including on the Munich–Bologna route. It currently operates four daily flights between the two cities, which will decrease to up to three daily flights during the winter season. The regional airline also operates two to three daily flights between Frankfurt and Bologna.
