As the Parliament swings back into season, federal lobbying registrations also shot up, with over 100 registrants this week.

Tech companies are lining up around Ottawa’s AI, cybersecurity and digital sovereignty agenda. The activity comes as the federal government rolls out Digital Transformation Canada, a plan launched earlier by the government this month aimed at modernizing public services and streamlining how the government buys and uses technology.

Among new registrants is Global Relay, a cloud based electronic communication tech company, that is pitching its technology for use inside federal operations. The company is seeking to discuss the government’s AI infrastructure, digital sovereignty and data security policies, while highlighting how its technology could automate tasks such as “triaging citizen requests,” classifying records and accelerating low-risk approvals.

Several major cloud, software and cybersecurity companies are also knocking on Ottawa’s door.

Amazon Web Services Canada is lobbying on government contracts involving cloud-based solutions and related support services, while Cisco Systems Canada is seeking opportunities to engage with Shared Services Canada on new procurements.

New Registrations

Since September 19th, Fierté Canada Pride was the most registered organization, with 4 unique registrations made on their behalf. All remaining organizations had no more than 3 registrations made on their behalf. 

Since September 19th, Crestview Strategy led all registrant groups with 11 unique registrations each. They were followed by Edelman, BlueSky Strategy Group, and StrategyCorp Inc., which each had 7 unique registrations. Next was IMPACT Public Affairs Inc. which had 5 unique registrations. All remaining registrant groups made no more than 4 unique registrations.

From September 19th to September 25th, Yomn Elsawy from Edelman Canada was the most active lobbyist, with 4 unique registrations. All remaining lobbyists had no more than 3 unique registrations.

In recent agriculture/trade registrants:

Concord Premium Meats Ltd was registered by Martin-Pierre Pelletier and Robert Evershed, both consultants with  Prospectus Associates, to review poultry import requirements, verification processes and compliance measures affecting the importation of chicken products.

Music Publishers Canada was registered by JC Raitt, a consultant with Compass Rose Group. The focus of their lobbying effort was to discuss amendments to the Copyright Act when it comes up for statutory review as it relates to musical works. Discussions were also held to provide input on the copyright agreements between Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. The client also sought to advocate for the renewal in the Budget Implementation Act for funding to Heritage and Global Affairs related to international trade for creative industries and funding for the Canada Music Fund to allow music publishers to build on success and compete globally.

Dominion Dynamics Inc. was registered by Conner Coles and Graham Looney, both consultants with Crestview Strategy, to provide input on the economic development of the Arctic region with respect to transportation and dual-use infrastructure to meet Canada’s defence requirements in the North as well as the implementation parameters of the recently announced Defense Industrial Strategy. Further discussions were held around the potential contributions of Canadian-controlled defense companies to Canadian sovereignty and economic prosperity alongside potential purchase, development and deployment of the client’s technologies, including the client’s dual-use, persistent Arctic sensing systems and autonomous collaborative platform.
