Lobby Wrap: Pallium Canada wants to talk about issue of accessibility to palliative care

A company that describes itself as Canada’s largest provider of palliative care education is lobbying the federal government.

Alexis Morin and Hannah Williams, consultants with Impact Public Affairs, registered this past week to lobby on behalf of Pallium Canada.

According to their mandatory registrations with the Commissioner of Lobbying, the company wants to increase engagement with the government on the issue of accessibility to palliative care across Canada and provide support to address the challenges with health human resources. With a focus on achieving financial sustainability and advancing research in this field, Pallium said it also seeks to make palliative care a key consideration as the government introduces new programs for seniors and people living with life-limiting conditions.

New Registrations

Since May 30, the Canadian Dental Association / l’Association Dentaire Canadienne lead all organizations with seven unique registrations made on each of their behalfs. They were followed by Jaunt Air Mobility Canada which had four.

Over that time span, Sandstone Group Inc. led all registrant groups with seven unique registrations. The next most active registrant group was PAA Advisory which had four.

From May 30 to June 5, Xavier Johnson, a consultant with Sandstone Group Inc. was the most active lobbyist with four unique registrations.

In recent agriculture/trade registrants:

The Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Growers’ Association was registered in-house by Alison Robertson, their executive director. The primary focus of their lobbying efforts was on advocating for the availability of crop protection products for the fruit and vegetable sector, including: Bill C30, specifically provisions related to the Pest Control Products Act and having the act to consider economic and food security realities when product registration decisions are made, while also having increased funding made available to the Pest Management Centre (of AAFC) to support the data needs to register products for smaller crops. The client sought to ensure environmental policy that does not make fruit and vegetable production uncompetitive in Canada. The core topics of their meetings include initiatives like the plastics registry, proposals to prevent the use of critical production inputs, policies that directly or indirectly increase the cost of energy required to produce food or move food to market. Meetings were also held to support a sustainable labour supply for fruit and vegetable farms through the protection of the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SAWP) and related agriculture streams under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.

In recent defence/security registrants:

GTDS Inc. was registered by Eric-Antoine Menard and Greg MacNeil, all consultants with NorthStar Public Affairs Inc., to raise awareness among government officials regarding the expertise of the client as a turnkey partner in the international defence procurement environment, including in the management of procurement for Canada, the development of markets for Canadian exports, and the management of military donation programs.
