Yukon’s Liard First Nation echoed disappointments voiced by the Ross River Dena Council Thursday regarding the final decision document on the controversial Kudz Ze Kayah mining project, released by the Yukon government last week.
Liard First Nation Chief Stephen Charlie says there needs to be conversation between the Yukon government and the other First Nations who have not signed self-governing agreements regarding their land rights.
“[The] Yukon government has a record of total failure on approving and regulating mines in Kaska Territory,“ said Charlie. “We’ve had proponents many times walk away from their commitments or promises and their responsibilities in regards to mines in our area and our territory.”
