Lawful access overhaul, CUSMA review and food insecurity on the agenda

What’s on the agenda for the House and Senate committees today.

A little over a month after beginning their House-mandated review of Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree’s latest bid to overhaul the protocols governing access to electronic and telecommunications data by law enforcement and intelligence agencies, PUBLIC SAFETY AND NATIONAL SECURITY members have blocked off at least four more hours to go through the fine print of the bill before sending it back to the main chamber. (3:30 p.m.)

Over at INTERNATIONAL TRADE, representatives of the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers’ Association and National Cattle Feeders’ Association will update MPs on the now imminent review of the Canada – U.S. — Mexico trade pact. (11 a.m.)

Meanwhile, STATUS OF WOMEN members launch a new investigation into the “labour force impacts of menopause and perimenopause” with back-to-back briefings from health care professionals, as well as Menopause Foundation of Canada president Janet Ko. (11 a.m.)

Also this morning:

  • AGRICULTURE AND AGRI-FOOD members hold a roundtable discussion on “food insecurity in the face of global instability” with representatives of the Greenhouse Produce Alliance of Canada, Fruit and Vegetable Growers of Canada and the Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute, among others. (11 a.m.)
  • NATURAL RESOURCES members hear from Royal Military College of Canada professor Christian Leuprecht, Counsel Public Affairs associate Alex MacDonald and Nukik Corporation CEO  Anne-Raphaëlle Audouin as part of their ongoing study of Canada’s “electrification, energy self-sufficiency and domestic energy security.” (12 p.m.)
  • CANADIAN HERITAGE members hear more testimony on the “state of creative and performance spaces across Canada.” (11 a.m.)

Later this afternoon, GOVERNMENT OPERATIONS AND ESTIMATES members continue to examine the ‘Buy Canadian Policy’ unveiled by the government last fall with expert testimony from Dalhousie University post-doctoral fellow Noah Fry and Macdonald-Laurier Institute senior fellow Richard Shimooka, as well as senior officials with MRE Canada and Wuxly Defence. (3:30 p.m.)
