KPop Demon Hunters beats Demon Slayer at the Golden Globes

Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation sensation KPop Demon Hunters nabbed two wins at the 2026 Golden Globes last night. The first was for its smash-hit song “Golden,” which took home the award for Best Original Song for a Motion Picture, beating out nominees like Wicked: For Good’s “No Place Like Home,” and “The Girl in a Bubble” as well as Sinners’ “I Lied to You.”

However, it wasn’t just the film’s music that got Sony Animation and Netflix a win. KPop Demon Hunters also took home a Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature, beating out its fellow demon-heavy rival, the anime Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle.

Both films earned their nominations. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle became the highest-grossing anime movie of all time, surpassing the 100 billion yen mark worldwide, making it the first Japanese film to achieve this milestone. Infinity Castle did so well at the box office that it surpassed the global box office totals of every Marvel and DC release in 2025. That’s no easy feat.

However, much to the chagrin of anime fans, it wasn’t enough to beat KPop Demon Hunters; the film has been on everyone’s lips since it debuted in June last year, and it’s climbed to the top of the Billboard charts, as well as become an overall pop culture hit. The singers behind the voices of Huntr/x’s members Ejae (Rumi), Audrey Nuna (Mira), and Rei Ami (Zoey), have become entertainment icons, performing live on platforms like Jimmy Kimmel and at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Both films are superb at what they do, and while they have very different target audiences, they’re united by the common cause of demon slaying. While KPop Demon Hunters does it with upbeat songs, Tanjiro and his friends shed blood and tears to bring down the malicious threat of Muzan and his demons. It may not be as kid-friendly as KPop Demon Hunters, but Infinity Castle is definitely worth watching, whether you’re an anime fan or not.
