Last year’s release of the Nike Kobe 6 Protro Dodgers was joined on the market by a pair of matching slides, and the theme’s imminent return on the Kobe 5 Protro has now been confirmed to accompany yet another classic sneaker.
The Kobe Bryant x Nike Air Force 1 Protro Dodgers adopts both the colors of the Los Angeles baseball team and baseball stitching. A muted gray suede base separates the AF1 from the two blue Nike Kobes while invoking the Dodgers’ away uniforms. Blue then appears through the heel’s massive number 8 patch, Kobe Bryant‘s signature on the midsole, tongue patch and outsole. Red baseball stitches affix the quarter and foxing, and a slightly glossy gray Swoosh carries a faint diamond pattern.
Bryant was known to attend Dodgers games going back to his early days in Los Angeles and threw out the first pitch on several occasions. The team has also maintained a relationship with his widow and daughters, with Bianka Bryant throwing out the first pitch and Capri Bryant announcing the start of the game during a bobblehead night for the late legend last year.
Beside the Kobe flourishes, the Air Force 1 Low Protro also features modernized tech just like the signature basketball shoes. A ReactX foam midsole offers superior cushioning, while the traction has been improved with a grippier compound and a new pattern incorporating motifs for Bryant.
The Kobe Bryant x Nike Air Force 1 Protro Dodgers will release Aug. 15, the same day as the Kobe 5 Protro, through the Snkrs app and select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $150.
