Kingdom Hearts 4 finally has a release window, if not quite a firm release date

Kingdom Hearts 4 finally has a release window – late 2027.

A new trailer at Disney’s D23 2026 showcase confirmed the news along with several other Kingdom Hearts-flavoured announcements, including a new Pixar Coco-themed world and an animated Kingdom Hearts series.

The window puts Kingdom Hearts 4 on track to arrive on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC around the series’ Western 25th anniversary.

It’s a notably firmer commitment than anything Square Enix has offered so far, as prior updates have largely consisted of director Tetsuya Nomura reassuring fans that development remains “on track” without indicating when the game might actually be finished.

Kingdom Hearts 4 kicks off a new story arc, the Lost Master Arc, picking up after the events of Kingdom Hearts 3 and set primarily in Quadratum, a large, realistic hub city with a distinctly Tokyo-like feel. Beyond a handful of teaser trailers and Nomura’s reassurances, this is the first time Square Enix has attached an actual date to any of it.

Earlier this month we learned that Kingdom Hearts publisher and developer, Square Enix, had denied claims that it used AI-generated content to promote the yet-to-be-released Kingdom Hearts Collection 1-3.

Fans first accused the company of using AI back in early June, and now – some two months after the initial accusations – Square Enix has responded, insisting, “these assets were created by our development team without the use of generative AI, and the issues resulted from human error.”
