But the current campaign could be an opportunity for Carney due to a tsunami of American propaganda, including from the White House, calling on Alberta to join the United States. Every time Washington dumps on Canada, the Liberals’ numbers go up. It also puts Poilievre in a tight spot: Alberta is the bedrock of Canadian conservatism, and he is a native son (as is Carney, a fact he doesn’t emphasize enough). But if Poilievre aspires to be prime minister, he must side with Canada, potentially enraging parts of his base that hate Ottawa with the fire of a thousand suns.
