Katie Holmes Goes Sculptural in Black Adam Lippes Dress

Katie Holmes traded sleek suiting for a more sculptural Adam Lippes fall 2026 silhouette in New York this week.

Holmes wore the Sitara dress in black, with a wide, padded neckline wrapped across the shoulders and one side left more open than the other.

Through the torso, the fit stayed close before the skirt dropped from the waist in a full bell shape, holding its rounded line in the original fall 2026 styling and on Holmes. The look was styled by Brie Welch, a longtime collaborator of Holmes’ who has also recently worked with Uma Thurman.

Holmes wore her hair pulled back with a loose piece at the front. The open neckline left room for a Bulgari collar necklace set with a blue pendant, worn with coordinating earrings.

The Adam Lippes dress also picked up a neckline Holmes has returned to recently. In April, she attended the “Brunello: The Gracious Visionary” gala in another off-the-shoulder look, pairing a white Brunello Cucinelli bodice with a high-waisted black embellished skirt.

Later that month, she moved into suiting for the American Image Awards, presenting Zac Posen with Designer of the Year in his custom GapStudio tuxedo: a black satin-lapel jacket, slim trousers and a corset underneath.

With the Sitara dress, Holmes stayed inside the pared-back wardrobe language she has favored lately, but the proportion changed. The Adam Lippes design replaced the cleaner line of the tuxedo with a wider skirt and a more formal portrait neckline, keeping the color restrained while giving the silhouette more volume.

Lippes’ fall 2026 collection drew from vintage automobiles, with the designer telling WWD that the references came through in color, texture and slick fabrics rather than literal car motifs. In his review of the collection, WWD’s James Manso wrote that Lippes was working in the “spirit of his take on haute sportswear,” with an emphasis on pure silks and double-faced cashmere.
