Joint Statement Following the Conclusion of Mexico’s Trade Mission to Canada (Toronto and Montréal – May 6-8, 2026)

The Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister responsible for Canada–U.S. Trade, Intergovernmental Affairs, Internal Trade and One Canadian Economy, and His Excellency Marcelo Ebrard, Secretary of Economy of Mexico, welcomed the successful conclusion of Mexico’s Trade Mission to Canada as a further demonstration of the strength, depth and forward-looking nature of the Canada–Mexico partnership.

Mexican business representatives across ten priority sectors participated in two days of trade and investment promotion activities in Toronto and Montréal. This included targeted business-to-business meetings and site visits, showcasing the innovation and strategic complementarities that are the foundation of our commercial relationship. The Secretary and Minister engaged with key private sector stakeholders on practical ways to bolster two-way trade and investment. They also participated in an armchair discussion at the Montréal Council on Foreign Relations (CORIM).

Building on the momentum of the Team Canada Trade Mission to Mexico in February 2026, this mission reflects the shared commitment of both governments to advance a more integrated, resilient and competitive North American economy. It underscores the strong appetite among Canadian and Mexican businesses to expand existing relationships, explore new opportunities and contribute to long-term, inclusive economic growth in both countries.

During the mission, more than 10 MOUs and agreements were signed across life sciences, agrifood, education, and creative industries sectors, underscoring the depth of Canada–Mexico commercial ties. These included a CA$200 million investment by Grupo Bimbo, the largest Mexican company operating in Canada, to modernize its Canadian facilities, as well as a memorandum of understanding signed by Solar International Core Canada for a $2 billion investment in Hidalgo, Mexico.

Secretary Ebrard and Minister LeBlanc discussed strengthening the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) / T-MEC (Tratado entre México, Estados Unidos y Canadá) through enhanced engagement, and shared perspectives on reinforcing North American competitiveness.

The Minister and Secretary reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the Canada-Mexico Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the Canada–Mexico Action Plan, launched by Prime Minister Carney and President Sheinbaum in September 2025. This roadmap provides a shared strategic vision to strengthen collaboration across priority areas, including trade and investment facilitation in agriculture, energy, innovation, trade infrastructure, natural resources, health, education and security, and to deliver tangible benefits for businesses and communities in both countries. The Minister and Secretary also celebrated the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 in North America and the opportunity to demonstrate continental cooperation on the global stage.

Canada and Mexico are committed to maintaining momentum in the bilateral relationship and to supporting the private sector, including small- and medium-sized enterprises and investors, to continue building a more dynamic and prosperous future together.
