Joint Press Statement at the Conclusion of the Visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

March 30, 2026 – Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – Global Affairs Canada

His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, met with the Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, in Riyadh on March 30, 2026. They affirmed the positive and growing momentum in bilateral relations, which have flourished for over 50 years. These relations are based on common interests in achieving and diversifying economic growth, enhancing regional and international security, and establishing the foundations for global peace.

Both sides noted the level of bilateral trade, which exceeded SAR 12 billion in 2024. They recognized the efforts of the Canada-Saudi Business Council to enhance economic cooperation between the two countries. They also noted the progress made in the ongoing negotiations on the agreement for the promotion and protection of foreign investment between the two countries. Both Ministers welcomed the convening of the second Canada-Saudi Arabia Education Partnership Forum, taking place in Toronto on the same day.

They discussed ways to strengthen and develop relations in all fields, particularly priority areas, including trade, investment, space, artificial intelligence, mining, tourism, education, and pharmaceuticals. They agreed on the importance of deepening bilateral ties and strengthening the comprehensive and partnership between the two countries.

They also exchanged views on regional challenges and condemned the destabilizing Iranian behavior in the region, including the Iranian attacks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states, which threaten regional and international security. They called on Iran to immediately cease its attacks and to respect international law, international humanitarian law, and the principles of good neighborliness. Furthermore, they stressed the necessity for Iran to comply with UN Security Council Resolution No. 2817 (2026), and to stop supporting, financing, and arming its affiliated militias in Arab states, which undermines regional and international peace and security.

The Honourable Anita Anand affirmed Canada’s solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its appreciation for the assistance provided by the Kingdom in facilitating the return of its citizens. Canada reaffirmed its readiness to cooperate closely with the Kingdom to promote regional stability and protect civilians amidst the ongoing conflict affecting the Gulf region and the Middle East.

Both sides agreed on the need for concerted international efforts to reduce tensions, enhance maritime and energy security, and protect critical infrastructure.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada expressed her appreciation for the warm welcome and hospitality, emphasizing Canada’s commitment to strengthening a substantive and future-oriented partnership with the Kingdom.
