IPL 2026, LSG vs RCB 50th Match Match Preview

Big picture: Most complete side against most incomplete side

That’s how wide the gulf between these two sides is. RCB, the defending champions, are looking the most complete side this tournament, capable of excelling in both high-scoring and mid-scoring matches. LSG have looked the most incomplete side, their home pitches making their bowlers look like demons and then unable to defend 228 when away. They have also conceded a 254 to Punjab Kings (PBKS).

LSG’s biggest problem has been that their big four batters have struggled. None of Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, Rishabh Pant and Nicholas Pooran has managed a strike rate of 150. RCB’s batters are all firing even as Phil Salt has gone home for scans on his injured finger.

Polar opposites as these sides may be, we all know these matches make for great banana peels. Especially in conditions such as Lucknow, where the highest first-innings score has been 164, where 155 has produced a tie, and where 159 has been defended successfully.

Team news: Jacob Bethell to continue

LSG’s latest combination included Josh Inglis as opener and Pooran at No. 3, pushing Pant and Aiden Markram further down the order. They got off to a dream start for a change, reaching 123 for 1 in eight overs, but again the underbelly surfaced as they managed a final score of only 228. There is no saviour on the outside. LSG will have to work with what they have got. That might mean giving this combination a bit of a run.

Lucknow Super Giants (probable) 1 Mitch Marsh, 2 Josh Inglis, 3 Nicholas Pooran, 4 Rishabh Pant (capt, wk), 5 Aiden Markram, 6 Akshat Raghuwanshi, 7 Himmat Singh, 8 Mohammed Shami, 9 Moshin Khan, 10 Avesh Khan, 11 Prince Yadav, 12 M Siddharth

Jacob Bethell is set to have a decent run at the top of the order with uncertainty around Salt’s injury. In the last match, RCB had a bit of a blip, losing wickets in a clutch against Gujarat Titans and then having to disrupt their Impact Player strategy. Venkatesh Iyer got into the match as opposed to Rasikh Salam, but you don’t expect this to happen every match.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (probable) 1 Virat Kohli, 2 Jacob Bethell, 3 Devdutt Padikkal, 4 Rajat Patidar (capt), 5 Jitesh Sharma (wk), 6 Tim David, 7 Romario Shepherd, 8 Krunal Pandya, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Josh Hazlewood, 11 Suyash Sharma, 12 Rasikh Salam

In the spotlight: Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant

A difficult pitch and a big outfield are just the place where Virat Kohli could prove valuable in 2026. Not that he is lagging. His strike rate this year is similar to Sanju Samson, and he is only 66 behind the Orange Cap holder. But he could really shine in a low-scoring game.
Rishabh Pant is having another subdued and frustrating season with LSG. His chats with the team owner have got more airtime than his batting, keeping or chirps. He has now lost his No. 3 slot as well. Can he find a way to unshackle himself?

This match will be played on the same pitch that LSG and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were tied on scores on 155. Both seamers and spinners found assistance from the surface. It is hard to see it magically change its nature.
