Hyundai Canada has issued a safety recall for some 2024–2026 Elantra Hybrid vehicles due to a possible fire risk.

The recall applies to 6,082 Canadian cars, according to Hyundai.

“At this time, there have been no fires, incidents, injuries or fatalities related to this issue in Canada,” Hyundai spokesperson Nitish Bissonauth said in an email to CBC News.

In the U.S., 54,337 cars have been recalled due to the same problem, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

An issue with the hybrid power control unit in some of the vehicles might lead to overheating, according to Hyundai.

The NHTSA says this will lead to a “no start” condition or a reduced power mode in the vehicle in most cases, though could cause overheating and increase the risk of a fire.

Hyundai says it is notifying all affected drivers, and will perform a software update free of charge that will fix the overheating problem.
